September 2007
Local professional actors want to get married! Not to be the traditional wedding, of course.
When I first met this bride, she described a wedding unlike any other. A blend of cultures, religions, venue styles and families - created a unique combination. They chose the Varsity Theater, a funky refurbished theater in Dinkytown - the perfect site for the reception. However, the ceremony was a little tricky. The couple had a special connection with Minnehaha Falls, as it was the site of a performance they produced and directed together. In light of a potential weather risk, we opted for an alternate location. A family connection led to the availability of the Eastcliff Mansion, overlooking the river with gorgeous views of downtown Minneapolis. This stately home has hosted many dignitaries, government officials and other important University events. Now it was to be the site of Markell and Tyson's wedding! Guests enjoyed a welcome of fresh lemonade amidst the meticulous gardens of Eastcliff. A gathering of Buddhists, Tibetan dancers, Poets and family descendents of Ralph Waldo Emerson, musicians, a bagpiper, actors from the Guthrie and the Children's theater and many other diverse groups, made up the body of the ceremony. A most unique and personal service followed. The wedding guests traveled to three different locations on the grounds of Eastcliff - trailing across the lawn as if following the Pied Piper.
Following the ceremony, guests departed and made there way down the river and to the Varsity Theater. There, they expressed more creativity with a vintage photobooth from Photobooth Memories, and scrapbook materials. What was created was truly amazing! Guests were welcomed by festive food and drink, catered by the Loring Pasta Bar and Jason McLean, the dècor was theatrical and a la Moulin Rouge. Romantic lighting filled the room, DJ Tim Ritter was spinning tunes, and guests enjoyed a funky urban setting while greeting Markell and Tyson in the center of the room. Before long, each guest was given an opportunity to make a special toast which included performances by close friends, a clown teacher, children playing the violin, and a very special toast by the Bride's Grandmother.
The evening was topped off with hours of dancing, lots of laughter and a wedding celebration unlike any other! Markell and Tyson showed their guests a truly memorable time in Minneapolis.
