Western suburban couple wishes to be married near the water – Excelsior and Minnetonka Beach fit the bill!
A historical church in the middle of the small town of Excelsior is filled with guests and flowers – the bride arrives by vintage car, heirloom handkerchief and huge white bouquet in hand. Groom awaits her at the front of the church. Guests are given engraved programs, tied with satin ribbon by Letter Perfect in Deephaven. This church is perfect for the bride and groom who grew up just down the street. Late summer blooming branches surround the doorway, large arrangements fill the space, and small flowergirl delivers the ring in her basket. Everything is Norman Rockwell.
A stream of guests bids the bride and groom adieu, and off to the lake they go – guests to the grand Lafayette Club in Minnetonka Beach, the wedding party to a boat waiting to deliver them to the reception. The day is perfect for a cruise over the water. While guests enjoy a large shrimp display with champagne and raspberries, the wedding party arrives at the dock and is transported by the golf cart up the path.
The Lafayette Club is gorgeous. Ballroom doors open and guests gasp at the vibrant floral by Martha’s Gardens and the rich, luxurious linens by Linen Effects. The rented crystal and candles sparkle in the light of the setting sun. Lynn Deichert and his jazz group entertain guests as they are seated and dine in old-style lake elegance. Guests enjoy a lovely meal and are treated to a custom made cake designed by the groom’s mother, Janet.
The sounds of the Synergy band spill out of the club into the summer night, guests stay and dance until the end of the evening. Kelly and Derek have the wedding of their childhood dreams, and are living happily ever after.
