Laura Hotvet - Principal/Lead Consultant
Laura is a founding member of the Mother of the Bride team. She has planned and executed over one hundred weddings with Mother of the Bride in over ten years. With this experience, she has found herself focusing on the extremely technical weddings, such as large guest lists, off-site locations, and weddings outside of the twin cities in rural settings or at the family cabin, long vendor lists, large wedding parties and more.
The challenge of bringing it all together is what she prizes most about her job. She has done everything during a wedding day, from running to buy a new veil, to plunging toilets, to decorating cakes, to bustling a gown, to rescuing lost guests - you name it, it has happened. Laura has an educational background, both in elementary education and special education. This background of organizational training has helped shape the successful formula of wedding planning that Mother of the Bride has created.
Laura says:
"The best part of a wedding for me is the hour prior to the ceremony. You see the culmination of the energy put into the planning from the families, the wedding party and their guests. The anticipation of the actual wedding ceremony is finally realized, and to be a part of that realization is truly an honor for me. It is a great feeling to be a part of a very intimate moment between the bride and groom and all the people closest to them. When I wait with the bride and her father by the entrance to help them enter the ceremony, I get to see all the reasons why this wedding is happening. I fluff the dress, open the door and in they go!
As a lead coordinator, I have faced many challenges in my time. I have postponed the start of the ceremony because the family of the bride and groom were stuck in an elevator. We quickly and seamlessly changed the format of the event, the bride had time to relax, and the family arrived safe and sound. Another bride got a big kiss of lipstick on the front of her dress five minutes before ceremony start time. I grabbed my emergency kit, which contains just about everything, and opened a package of baby wipes. I blotted the dress, the lipstick came off and the bride was happy and ready to go.
Every wedding has its unforeseen challenges. Our goal is to avoid them, but when they happen, we solve the problem and continue on. We have been described as 'unflappable and calming' for a reason. My personal niche in this business is my ability to formulate a good match between my clients and their vendor team. Skill and talent are important, but also a strong personality match between everyone is a must! I feel that the team should have an enjoyable working style and the bride and groom should have fun with the process. This comes from compiling a team of good quality service providers, one that leaves everyone smiling in the end. I know I have done my best when the event comes to a close and the bride and groom and their families hug me and tell me they couldn't have done it without me. I often get tears of joy, and seeing this kind of relief leaves me with a feeling of satisfaction and looking forward to my next event."
The future of Mother of the Bride and their energetic team is an exciting one.
